You can experience the remake of the landmark 1994 shooter when it splatters gratuitous gibs on Steam for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch on July 31st, 2023. You can also snag the remaster on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.Īpogee Entertainment and the diabolical geniuses at New Blood Interactive and Nightdive Studios have finally set the release date for their upcoming remaster of the cult classic FPS Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition. Quake is also now available via the Epic Games Store, if you’re curious.

The update also adds a few bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements, such as an improved auto aim to reduce amount of snapping and view locking onto enemies, and being able to change the crosshair colour and type from the Gameplay options menu. The add-on makes specific use of fog and lighting effects, so take care where you tread. This new content features you tromping through waterlogged crypts and underground temples while combating a deadly plague. The beatings continue until the 9th wave, where you have the option to exit, or continue fighting.Īlso new is the “Honey” add-on, again created by MachineGames. Every 3rd wave has boss monsters, but once you clear it, you get a Silver key to unlock more weapons and items. The rules are simple: Score points by killing enemies, with multi-kills netting you additional points. Update 2 adds MachineGames’ new Horde Mode, which allows for 1-4 players or bots in local multiplayer and online modes in one of four new maps. Not only have MachineGames and Nightdive managed to restore a level cut from the original game, but now fans can enjoy a brand-new Horde Mode and add-on! Which is highly unlikely, to put it mildly.Quake fans are getting more goodies with the recently-released remaster. It would only rip me out of my chair if it was a complete remake, like Q1 with all its original levels in the Doom Eternal engine. Personally, if I am brutally honest, I am looking forward to "Tremor" or Romero's Quake map(s) (whenever he will get to that) a lot more than to a Quake remaster.

Higher than 480p I can't go resolution-wise, at least for vanilla-like maps. do I really need that? Quake is one of those games that need to be pixellated, at least for me. Maybe some HD stuff will be thrown in, but tbh. You won't be able to run latest and biggest BSP2 maps with it, almost for sure. But I doubt it's gonna be super spectacular. Let's see what they will do with Quake, anyway. Sure, you gotta be a bit picky and specific with your needs, but that's how I roll. But well, for whatever reason they couldn't even make Doom 1 and 2 launch with the same executable, even though both games apparently use (almost) identical Unity assets. And then, what if you wanna go for some Heretic or even Hexen for a change? Right. If you want OPL synthesis for music, Unity Doom is also not the right choice.

Sure, those that just want to play Doom somehow, it's probably enough.įor me it's like this: When I want to play a vanilla-style pwad, I am going for Crispy/Russian Doom, for those fancy projects with huge maps and nice lighting it's going to be PrBoom+ or GZDoom. Pretty much any other port besides Chocolate Doom has a lot more features and options. It just doesn't bring anything new to the table - besides being "official". I am not against Unity per se, it has its target audience and I respect that.
